Social Media in the Classroom

Collaboration and Privacy

In my quest to better understand the role that my chosen apps play in my classroom collaboration I am discovering that there are some definite concerns relating to student privacy and information tracking.  I would have to admit that I have rare…if ever (yikes) read the privacy policies of apps that I use personally, so when I began to wade into the legal’ese’ of the privacy policies of my 4 apps i felt somewhat out of my element.  So, I considered what I didn’t really understand, or had questions about and e-mailed the organizations directly.  I am looking forward to a reply, to alleviate some of the stress I have regarding students stepping out onto the digital stage to begin working with each other in a digital environment.  There is one hurdle I am still working to overcome before implementing any ‘sign up’ procedures, most of these services require or suggest the use of an e-mail as part of the user identity.  I think that the Google based G-mail provides the easiest and I am pursuing this as a class option.
